Build Your Sales Habit & Book More Clients (Even With A Small Audience)

Finding paying clients on social media can feel like an enigma. There are so many ‘rules’ to marketing on instagram, as a small business and it can all feel overwhelming.

I’m guessing you’re here because you want to start getting more sales on Instagram. A few more clients could really help to increase your income (yes! That’s what we want) but at the same time, you certainly don’t want to be the person who comes off as “salesy” in case it puts people off!

Perhaps you’re telling yourself the sales aren’t rolling in yet because your Instagram account is still ‘too small’ and you don’t have ‘enough followers’ to start selling.

Here’s something I REALLY want you to know: You don’t need a big audience on social media to start selling, or drive the income you want. You are ready now.

Forget thinking you need a huge audience (you really don’t) - it all starts with some teeny tiny habits that make a huge difference to the traction you build online.

Build Your Sales Habit & Book More Clients (Even With A Small Audience) - Sara Dalrymple

Here’s two reasons why you need to start getting consistent with your sales on Instagram right now…

  • You don’t need a huge audience on social media to drive sales - if you have 100 followers on social media and you’re telling yourself that’s not enough people to sell to - imagine a room full of 100 people - that actually quite a few people right? What if just two or three of those people bought from you?

  • This is about building a habit. NOW is the time to start building your sales habits and get comfortable with selling on social media. Getting consistent with your sales now will mean you’ll be super comfortable with selling when your audience does grow - and guess what, by being consistent with your selling, your audience is likely to grow as well.

Instead of waiting until you have MORE people in your community who may never buy from you, right now is the time to get really good at helping the people you already have. So here are some prompts to help you get started.

Get consistent

If you’re not already showing up, posting and engaging consistently - this is THE most important takeaway for you from this post. People don’t buy when you show up out of the blue and talk about your product or service. They buy from you when they’ve seen you pop up on their feed a few times, they’ve heard your story, they know you love cocoa pops and watching re-runs of friends, they know you’re an expert in your field and they’ve seen the results you get for your clients.

So, you need to be showing up consistently and communicating, connecting with your audience before they are going to feel ready to buy from you. Set yourself a goal as to how often you want to be posting and showing up on social media and get started! Start today, get consistent and build the habit.

Ask your audience what they need!

Reach out to existing followers and start a conversation with them. Use polls and questions in your stories to ask your followers what they’re struggling with most and in your DMs ask people what it is that’s keeping them stuck. From there you can get into a conversation with them and deeply understand their needs. This not only helps you understand how you might be able to help that one person, it also gives you tons of idea for your content where you’re giving value and showing your expertise.

Give value & show your expertise

Give value in your content! Think about your audiences struggles and challenges and help them overcome them in your content. This could be posts like ‘3 ways to overcome [audience struggle]’ or ‘How I managed to stop [audience struggle]’ or ‘how I helped my client acheive [audience goal]’.

Be generous with what you share and this is about demonstrating your skills, expertise and knowledge as well as giving them a taster of what it would be like to work with you. By giving your audience some quick wins and some ah-ha moments through your free content, they naturally start to get curious about how you can help them go further.

Make it clear WHO you help and HOW you help them

Say what you do and say it OFTEN! Tell your followers who you help, what problems you solve and how you work - regularly in your content. Once a month is not enough, once a week is not enough, be consistently reminding your audience of exactly what your offers are there to help them do/ feel/ be more etc.

Every behaviour is driven by the desire to solve a problem, so if you are not making it abundantly clear in your copy what known need you are solving, you are hiding the KEY piece of information from the people who need it. When you build this into your weekly narrative on social media, nobody has to look too hard to understand how you can help them, and how they find out more.

Talk to your NICHE!

Comment in a genuine way, start conversations, interact, be proactive and reciprocate. Talking directly to your target niche is key: not to your biz pals, not to your friends who follow you and who you’re worried are going to judge you, the only people you need to be keeping front and centre when you post are the people you are here to SERVE!

Which segment of the industry you work in do you help with your services? Talk exclusively to them in all of your content and help them know you are for them!

Use Call To Actions (CTAs) and remember to ask for the sale

What should we do when we get to the end of reading your post? Where do you want us to head to next? What action should we take? How do we get MORE of your good insights?! TELL US! This is where you need to say - head to the link in my bio to find out more, or drop me a DM if you want to chat about it, or pop your questions in here [question sticker in stories] or drop an emoji in the comments if you want me to DM you the link.

Be Yourself

You want to sell in a way that feels good to both you and your audience right? AND we know that people buy from us when they know, like and trust us - so being yourself is super important when it comes to delivering sales.  Human connection is the ONE when it comes to standing out online. Show us your personality, we are SO DONE with everyone trying to fit in and be like everyone else!

Here’s one final reminder to give you that extra nudge you might need to get out there and start selling consistently on social media

Sell with service! The number one goal for your sales activity is to make it easy as possible for your audience to decide whether or not they want to buy from you. Instead of focussing on “asking” for a sale, shift your focus to making their decision as straightforward as possible.

When you combine being of service and knowing how to communicate the value you deliver, the sale will happen without an ounce of sleaze or sliminess - and what’s more, YOU and YOUR CLIENT will both feel good about it.

If you’d like a step by step walkthrough of how to do this for your community, I talk you through exactly how to warm up your audience to what you’re selling in a way that feels light, natural and most of all USEFUL! I’ve helped hundreds of business owners grow their confidence using social media to bring in clients, and I’d love to help you too. You can find all the information by clicking below! x
